Rethinking Echoes is a simple solution to retain users' attention through different sensory experiences and encourage thoughtful spending and savings through key features like "Reflections" and the "Rainy Day Account."

Problem58% of people with ADHD, struggle with impulsive spending due to difficulty with delayed gratification and financial awareness. The shift to “Tap” contactless transactions has erased the physical connection to money, making spending feel less tangible and making it easier to spend without thinking. It makes draining your bank account effortless.

InsightApproximately 1 in 2 people with ADHD have dyslexia which makes them better visual and sensory learners. They process information better when they can see, feel, or interact with it in a tangible way.

Solution Integrating visual and haptic feedback into payment systems.  Features like vibrations, animations, and "Are you sure?" notifications can encourage users to pause, reflect, and make more thoughtful spending decisions. This approach helps ADHD individuals regain control over their finances and develop better saving habits.

RETHINKING ECHOES

“Rethinking Echoes” makes you pause and re-think before a transaction is processed. Cashless transactions, especially done using NFC chip technology, debit card, and credit card, become more tangible using notifications, haptics and animation.

1. Notification

“Are you sure?”

A notification pops up to make sure the transaction being done is a considered decision.
Haptic Feedback simulates the feeling of parting with cash

2. Visuals

3. Rainy Day Account

Saving Account

Barclays special savings account that fills up because of a persons effort to rethink their financial decision.
A simple “Yes” I want to fill up my Rainy Day Account leads to an ocean of savings.

4. Reflections
Sense of Reward / Encouragement

A moment of reflection for people with an inclination to spend impulsively helps them make considered financial decisions.
“Reflections” is a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly visual journey where a persons effort is recognized. A collection of all those moments when a small pause itself leads to “I don’t think I need to make this purchase.”
